ASDA Lines-Up Logistics Portfolio Sign-Off
ASDA Lines-Up Logistics Portfolio Sign-Off
Responding to reports today (Wednesday 16 December) that ASDA’s new owners the EG Group have hired advisers to market the sale of the retail giant’s logistics portfolio, which includes distributions centres in Falkirk and Grangemouth, GMB Scotland Organiser Bob Deavy said:
“What we were told wouldn’t happen is now happening and these reports will be viewed with suspicion and worry by GMB members across the entire ASDA operation.
“It prompts questions that need urgent answers, not least what will this mean for existing jobs and conditions, alongside the implications for the company’s liability of the 20,000 equal pay claims lodged against it.
“It also caps off a bad week for the morale of these key workers after ASDA’s Boxing Day ‘holiday’ ploy, which will see thousands of workers having to sacrifice a day’s annual leave while the employer closes its stores.
“Instead of properly valuing dedicated colleagues for all they have done this year, every move ASDA makes looks like a Christmas pinch to recoup costs following the sale of the business.”
