GMB Responds to NHS Highland Chair Resignation

Responding to the resignation of NHS Highland Chairman David Alston, GMB Scotland Senior Organiser Drew Duffy said:

“Since August 2018 we have been campaigning to raise awareness of a systemic culture of bullying in NHS Highland; a culture that has lasted for at least a decade.                                        

When the whistle-blowers and GMB met with Scottish Government representatives last November one of our requests was for clear accountability from the leadership of NHS Highland. 

We are encouraged to see the start of that accountability being demonstrated through the resignation of Mr Alston.

We also called for an independent review of the culture in NHS Highland.  John Sturrock QC has been working on this and we look forward to seeing his review upon its completion.”
