GMB Scotland members' hard work leads to bumper profits in Diageo

Diageo Preliminary Results 2017/18

GMB has today (Thursday 26 July) heard the announcement of Diageo's preliminary financial results for 2017/18.

The results again show increased profits from £3.559 billion to £3.691 which is an increase of 3.7%. Since 2010 Diageo have made over £28.334 billion in operating profit and to put this years operating profit in to perspective it is larger than over 30 countries GDP.

GMB are in the midst of pay negotiations with Diageo over their members 2018/19 annual pay increase. GMB will also be seeking assurances over future employment in Scotland, with such massive profits comes responsibilities to the communities and workers where those profits come from.

GMB Scotland Organiser Keir Greenaway said: “GMB members have seen their hard-work result in another great financial result for Diageo. These financial results leave Diageo in a great position to reward their hardworking and loyal staff with a pay rise in proportion with the eye-watering profits they have made in 2018.

GMB will always campaign for our members interests, so we will be meeting with Diageo next month to make sure it isn't just the shareholders that see the fruits of GMB members labour.”
