GMB Scotland extends deepest condolences following the passing of GMB & Labour Party colleague, Frank Doran
GMB Scotland extends our deepest condolences following the untimely passing of our former GMB and Labour Party colleague, Frank Doran.
Frank Doran was a working class boy from Edinburgh who never forgot where he came from no matter where he went. Whether as a young labour lawyer, campaigning MP for the survivors and victims of Piper Alpha, as Secretary of the Trades Union Group of MPs or his role in creating the National Minimum Wage - Frank was always on the side of the ordinary man and woman. He always saw himself as an ordinary man with a responsibility to do his best. However, that unassuming personal humility was just one of the many extraordinary things about the man.
Frank was a true friend to GMB and the model of how to be a trades union MP, always accessible to workers and attentive to their interests, principled in his positions and, of course, quietly cultured too. His is a loss that is felt sorely by our union.
Our thoughts are with Joan and with Frank’s two sons as well as his many other friends, family and colleagues in Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and London.
