GMB Scotland Warns Energy Giant Centrica "Must Change”

Responding to this morning’s (Thursday 11 June) announcement that energy giant Centrica are to shed a further 5,000 posts to “arrest the decline of the company”, GMB Scotland Secretary Gary Smith said: 

“Centrica is a company that needs a plan for the future, giving hope to its workers and the consumer.

“The leadership of Iain Conn was a disaster of an exercise. Centrica paid a heavy price for Conn’s cut and gut agenda, haemorrhaging customers and looking absolutely lost as change happened all around it.

“It’s new CEO Chris O’Shea is standing on the shoulders of gigantic failure but one lesson he can take from the old boss is that you cannot cut your way out of a crisis.

“This once great British institution can rise again, it can be the centre point of our energy future but it must change and its loyal workers must be part of that process."
