National Care Service Consultation for Scotland
Responding to the launch of the National Care Service consultation today (Monday 9 August), Acting GMB Scotland Secretary Louise Gilmour said:
“The future of our social care sector must be underpinned by proper value for the people who will deliver it, and for GMB that means a £15 an hour minimum wage.
“The Feeley Review has clearly demonstrated how a substantial increase in pay for carers can transform the sector, not just for staff, but for service users and the wider economy.
“Let’s be clear this consultation is a direct response to the horrific last eighteen months and the long-understood crisis in our care sector, where predominantly women workers have been exploited for years.
In the words of the First Minister, “It’s time to be bold”.”
