GMB Scotland Proud to Celebrate Glasgow Pride 2017
GMB Scotland - Proud to Celebrate Glasgow Pride 2017
GMB Scotland members will join thousands of people descending on the Glasgow Pride 2017 festivities this weekend (Saturday 19 & Sunday 20 August).
Scotland’s campaigning trade union is proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our LGBT+ community for equality and in support of this year’s theme, a celebration of LGBT+ families.
The event kicks-off with the pride parade through Glasgow, starting at noon on Saturday with GMB members congregating from 11.15 at the McLennan Arch in Glasgow Green.
GMB Scotland Equalities Chair Annette Drylie said: “The weekend will be a fantastic celebration of love, progressive family values and hard-fought equalities rights - everything that is good about modern Scotland.
At the same time, we realise that we cannot take these basic human rights and gains for granted, not when LGBT+ rights are being brutally violated in places like Chechnya and neo-Nazis and supremacist militias storm the streets of the United States.”
GMB Scotland LGBT+ Representative Nicola Hay said: “Our GMB family is proud to play our part at Glasgow Pride and to march not only for our Scottish LGBT+ communities and families but our global community too.
We have made huge strides together but we cannot forget that in seventy-two countries same-sex relationships remain a crime and ten countries carry the death penalty for the simple act of loving another human being.
In the bigger picture, our journey towards true equality is only being born. That’s why we have to nurture and protect what we have gained and constantly campaign for progress.”
